Dealing with a concussion after a car accident

On Behalf of | Oct 20, 2021 | Car Accidents

A car accident can leave one with various injuries that may have serious long-term effects. Injuries that involve the head have the potential to cause long-term or permanent damage, including a concussion. Concussions are common car accident injuries, and even a minor one can have major implications on a victim’s life. It is critical to take any type of head injury seriously, seeking the support and care of a medical professional.

Signs of a concussion

It is not always immediately apparent when one suffers a concussion. The signs, symptoms and severity of this type of injury may not be obvious until days after the incident, but the following could be indications of this type of brain trauma:

  • Headache and ringing in the ears
  • Blurry vision
  • Drowsiness and continued fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Confusion or amnesia about the accident

Delaware drivers and passengers who hit their heads in a collision may not realize they suffered a concussion. In some cases, the victim may be unaware of concerning symptoms, but others may notice problems. Slurred speech, personality changes, sensitivity to light, forgetfulness and more could all be signs that an accident caused potentially serious physical damage.

Concussion victims need medical help

After a car accident, it is prudent for those involved to seek medical care. An evaluation can determine if any serious injuries occurred, such as a concussion. Those injured as a result of the negligent or reckless actions of another party could have grounds to pursue compensation and damages through the Delaware civil justice system.
