Birth injuries: Any error could have fatal consequences

On Behalf of | Mar 24, 2020 | Birth Injuries

The birth of a child is the most joyful occasion for parents in Delaware and across the country. Unfortunately, birth injuries can turn this wonderful time into a complete and utter tragedy. Childbirth is a very fragile and detailed process, so when mistakes are made both infants and mothers can be fatally harmed. Unfortunately, the rate of injuries during childbirth remains disturbingly high in the United States.

A lawsuit filed in another state alleged that the negligence of a physician led to the death of an infant. According to the lawsuit, the doctor and other medical professionals were negligent and failed to monitor the mother before and during childbirth. The lawsuit also claimed that the baby was not delivered in a timely manner.

The alleged delayed birth resulted in the infant suffering a lack of oxygen and cut off blood supply to the brain. Tragically, the baby died a short time later due to the alleged injuries. The lawsuit claimed that the baby’s death could have been prevented had the defendants acted in a timely manner. The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages in excess of $25,000.

While Delaware residents are privileged to have access to some of the best medical care available anywhere in the world, childbirth is anything but routine and any mistake can have fatal consequences. Families who have suffered due to birth injuries may want to consider seeking the services of an experienced legal representative. A lawsuit, if successful, could supply families with vital compensation to help recover from such a traumatic and devastating experience.
