Mother says her providers failed to recognize birth injuries

On Behalf of | Dec 23, 2019 | Birth Injuries

For parents in Delaware and across the country, one of the most wonderful occasions in life is the birth of their children. It goes without saying that all parents want a healthy birth, but this doesn’t always happen. Tragically, birth injuries continue to occur at an alarming rate in the United States. Childbirth is a fragile process and if any steps are neglected in this process, babies and mothers can be permanently injured.

A woman in another state claims her medical providers injured her baby during birth and failed to recognize or treat the injury. According to the woman, her daughter’s collar bone was fractured during birth. After delivery, the mother said she noticed that her baby was turning purple and the area around her collar bone was swollen and bruised.

The woman alleges that her husband requested an X-ray but they were repeatedly told by providers that everything was fine. After being discharged, the woman said she took her daughter to see a pediatrician who performed X-rays and confirmed that her daughter’s collar bone had been broken. The woman said she was also wrongly accused of child abuse so the pediatrician wrote a letter confirming that the baby’s injury was from birth. She said she hopes that others can learn from her experience.

Unfortunately, when providers are negligent during childbirth, this wonderful moment can quickly turn into a tragedy. Delaware parents who have been affected by birth injuries could benefit by seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in vital compensation to help families with medical expenses and other monetary losses.
