Car accidents involving pedestrians are more likely to be fatal

These days, pedestrians are literally everywhere in Delaware cities thanks to a booming economy. Walking is one of the most popular and economical forms of transportation, and it's a great way to stay in shape. However, walking near crowded roadways is incredibly dangerous. With pedestrians and vehicles in such close proximity, accidents will happen. Tragically, car accidents involving pedestrians are often fatal.

Recently, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Wilmington. The accident happened during the evening hours near the 500 block of South Walnut Street. According to reports, police arrived on the scene to find the pedestrian underneath a vehicle.

The pedestrian may have been attempting to cross the street from a nearby shopping center. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was killed in the tragic accident, authorities said. Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigation efforts. The roadway remained closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash, reports said.

At some point during the day, nearly every person is a pedestrian. Officials and police departments across the state of Delaware have taken measures to reduce car accidents involving pedestrians. These measures include increased law enforcement, pedestrian safety campaigns and infrastructure improvements. Those in Delaware who suffer injuries or the loss of loved ones due to acts of negligence in car accidents can pursue claims for monetary damages, including for pain and suffering. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation that could be used to cover medical bills and other expenses.
