Driving in Delaware these days is definitely dangerous. Just getting from point A to point B can be an adventure. Those who travel by motorcycle face even more risks than those in passenger vehicles. Motorcycles are much smaller than most vehicles so they can be harder for other drivers to see. This is a main cause of the vast majority of car accidents involving motorcycles.
A recent crash in Claymont ended with a motorcyclist suffering severe injuries. The accident happened on Philadelphia Pike during the afternoon hours. According to reports, a motorcyclist was traveling on the roadway when the driver of a sedan attempted to make a left turn into a gas station and pulled into the path of the motorcyclist.
Reportedly, the motorcyclist slammed into the right front passenger side of the sedan and was ejected from the bike. Authorities said the motorcyclist was badly injured and was airlifted to a local hospital. The driver of the sedan was uninjured. Police said the sedan driver was cited for turning left without yielding to oncoming traffic.
Drivers in Delaware should always pay attention to their surroundings and be on the lookout for motorcycles. Unfortunately, car accidents involving motorcycles are more likely to be serious or deadly since motorcyclists are minimally protected and completely exposed to the elements. Those who have suffered injury or loss in a crash due to the negligence of another party may be able to take legal action. A successful lawsuit could result in substantial compensation to help victims and families get through this difficult experience.
