Car accidents: Driver faces charges after crash with motorcycle

Motorcycles are a popular form of transportation in Delaware. They are smaller, take up less space and are more fuel efficient than passenger vehicles. However, due to their small size, motorcycles can be difficult for other motorists to spot, especially during low light conditions. Visibility issues are primary contributing factors in car accidents involving motorcycles. Tragically, these type of accidents often end in serious injury or death.

An accident near Dover involving a car and a motorcycle claimed the life of one man and left a driver facing serious charges. The accident occurred during the nighttime hours at the intersection of Forrest Avenue and Artis Drive. According to reports, the car pulled out from a stop sign into the path of the motorcycle.

Reportedly, the motorcyclist went into a slide after hitting the brakes and impacted the side of the car. Authorities said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the car left the scene but later returned in another vehicle, according to police. Police believed the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The driver was arrested and now faces serious charges, police said.

Motorcyclists are at a greater risk for serious injuries since they are minimally protected from the elements. Navigating crowded roadways across the state of Delaware can be dangerous regardless of the mode of transportation. Those in Delaware who have suffered injuries or loss due to negligence in car accidents could benefit from discussions with an experienced attorney. Damages from a successfully litigated claim could provide financial relief for struggling families.
