Surgical errors: Couple files claim after alleged negligence

On Behalf of | Oct 15, 2018 | Surgical Errors

There is always risk involved with any surgical procedure. No matter how minor or routine the procedure may be, any mistake made by surgeons and physicians during surgery can have drastic effects on patients. The state of Delaware requires health care professionals to complete years of academic and on-the-job training in order to legally treat patients. However, no amount of training can totally prevent surgical errors.

A couple in another state filed a lawsuit against a medical center after the husband suffered an infection due to alleged negligence during a procedure. The lawsuit says the man was a patient at the medical center and underwent a heart bypass surgery. According to claims, providers left several temporary pacing wires inside the man’s abdomen after the surgery, and this resulted in the man suffering an infection.

Allegedly, the man had to endure additional medical treatment as a result of the infection. Due to her husband’s injuries, the wife claimed that she suffered loss of consortium of her husband. The couple claims that providers were negligent and deviated from the accepted standard of care. The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages as well as all just relief.

Although strict regulations and advanced technology have made surgical procedures in Delaware safer than ever before, there is always a chance for human error. Families who have suffered injuries or loss as a result of surgical errors could benefit from discussions with an experienced attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in a substantial monetary award to help families with medical expenses and other financial losses.
