A July 5 filing in a U.S. District Court alleges that two doctors may have botched an eye surgery, according to sources. A woman has filed a medical malpractice suit against the doctors and the United States, via the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, for surgical errors she says has caused permanent damage to her eyesight. Delaware residents should be aware that the case is still under review and no final decision has been reached.
According to the July 5 filing, the woman says the two doctors deviated from applicable standards of care back on May 28, 2015, when the woman came to them for a popular LASIK eye surgery. She says the doctors did not appropriately sedate her for the procedure, and when her pain responses became evident, they negligently aborted the entire procedure. The extent of the damage she may have incurred from this decision was not made clear in the report.
However, it has been confirmed that she is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 for the ordeal. She is now seeking a trial by jury and an award that would cover all damages, as well as attorney fees, court costs and any other relief decided upon by the court. She has retained counsel in her home state, and the case is set to begin soon.
