Doctor commits surgical errors, lies to cover mistake

On Behalf of | Apr 9, 2016 | Surgical Errors

A 60-year-old woman is suing for malpractice after a doctor apparently removed an incorrect rib from her body. Delaware residents will likely be shocked by the revelation that a doctor could commit such tremendous surgical errors, and even more so that the same doctor could then lie to cover the error. The woman’s case is currently being overseen by a court local to the family.

According to the press release, the woman was scheduled to have a rib removed in May 2015 as a result of a lesion. However, she went home still experiencing pain the area of the surgery. A later X-ray determined the problem: doctors had apparently removed the wrong rib. In addition, metal coils used as part of the surgery had been left inside the woman’s body.

It is also alleged that a doctor unattached to the initial surgery scheduled the woman for a repeat surgery to correct the error. However, the doctor who originally performed the surgery incorrectly informed his colleague that the issue was that not enough of the existing rib had been removed, not that the rib itself was the incorrect one. It has since been suggested this doctor lied to cover up the incorrect removal. The woman has been left with considerable medical trauma as a result.

Surgical errors are a terrifying prospect for most Delaware residents. However, it is important that such errors be identified and dealt with as quickly and effectively as possible. This is why it is so important for individuals who believe they have been the victims of malpractice to come forward and seek legal representation, in order to ensure such errors are not committed against others.
