Couple files lawsuit re daughter's serious birth injuries

Many Delaware medical facilities have excellent reputations for providing thorough and efficient care to patients according to the highest level of accepted safety standards. Some hospitals, however, may be among others in the nation where repeated incidents of birth injuries, surgical errors or other medical malpractice issues are reported. A childbirth center in another state has come under scrutiny after several legal claims were filed regarding at least five serious incidents, including the deaths of two infants between 2012 and 2014.

Brain injuries lead to malpractice lawsuit

Hot on the heels of settling a lawsuit involving the untimely death of a promising doctor, an embattled health provider is preparing to face another suit for another allegedly mistreated blood clot. Delaware residents may be aware of the death of a 26-year-old mother of two who passed away as a result of brain injuries due to a hemorrhage on April 1, 2013. This new trial is scheduled to begin on April 4 of this year.

$15 million malpractice suit filed for surgical errors

A massive lawsuit has been filed with a state appeal board by a woman who says the hospital that treated her botched a critical surgery, according to local sources. Delaware residents may be shocked to hear that the 54-year-old out-of-state woman is seeking $15 million in malpractice damages after she says surgical errors committed by hospital staff left her with speech problems and other injuries. The case is being overseen by the appeals board as of this report.

Woman dies of brain injuries, and family sues for malpractice

A tragic case of medical malpractice has recently been settled, according to local legal sources. Delaware residents will be pleased to hear a case involving a woman who died of brain injuries in May 2013 has finally found justice after her family was awarded an undisclosed settlement. The case was resolved only a week into the trial.

Sponge left inside man due to surgical errors found 8 years later

Many people in Delaware have heard horror stories about surgeons leaving objects behind inside patients, such as sponges and medical instruments. Some of those people might not believe that it is possible, but the unfortunate truth is that these types of surgical errors do occur. In fact, an out-of-state appeals court recently entered a ruling regarding a case in which a surgical sponge was left inside a patient for nearly eight years.

Man sues for malpractice after alleged surgical errors

An individual who was once a patient at a health center has filed a malpractice lawsuit. He filed as a result of surgical errors he suffered in a Dec. 2013 procedure. The case is now being overseen by a local court, as would likely be the case for similar cases in Delaware.

Cerebral palsy and medical malpractice

Cerebral palsy is a brain condition that impacts a person's ability to use their muscles, as well as their posture and balance. Cerebral palsy is present at birth or in early infancy. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 323 children have cerebral palsy. Children with cerebral palsy can have drastically different outlooks. Some children with cerebral palsy can walk with or without assistance, while other children will not be able to walk or move freely. In some cases, cerebral palsy is accompanied by other developmental delays.

Surgical errors: Mother settles for $30 million to care for son

Following a settlement that was recently reached in a lawsuit against a medical facility and a physician in another state, a 6-year-old boy's mother may rest assured that proper lifetime care can be provided. Delaware victims of surgical errors need not carry the burden alone as negligent medical practitioners can be held accountable. This lawsuit arose from an error made by the surgeon during a procedure shortly before the boy's third birthday.
