Car accidents: Impaired driver causes fatal crash

On Behalf of | Feb 18, 2020 | Car Accidents

Unfortunately, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol continues to be a big problem in the state of Delaware. Impaired driving is not only reckless and incredibly irresponsible, it is one of the leading causes of fatal car accidents across the United States. Those who drive while intoxicated not only endanger themselves, they endanger the lives of all those around them. Recently, according to police, an impaired driver caused a crash that took the life of a man in Milton.

The crash happened during the afternoon hours on Coastal Highway near Eagles Crest Road. Police reports note that the driver of a southbound sedan approached a southbound SUV at a high rate of speed. The driver of the sedan apparently failed to slow down and struck the SUV from behind. The impact knocked the SUV off the road into a grassy area where the vehicle overturned, reports said.

Authorities said the driver of the SUV was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. A passenger in the SUV and the driver of the sedan were both seriously injured and taken to a local hospital, according to police. Investigations are ongoing, but police said the driver of the sedan was impaired.

It’s common knowledge that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is very dangerous, yet people continue to do it. Delaware families who have suffered loss due to the negligence of another party in car accidents may benefit from discussions with a knowledgeable and experienced attorney. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in just compensation to help families pay funeral expenses and recover documented monetary damages.
