Venturing out on Delaware roadways these days is always a risky endeavour. Drivers never know what they may encounter, which is why it is always very important to stay focused when behind the wheel. Thanks to modern technology, motorists today face an abundance of distractions that can take focus away from the road. Distracted drivers are one of the main causes of car accidents across the United States today.
An alleged distracted driver caused a recent crash just outside of Wilmington that left several motorists suffering injuries. The accident happened just before noon on Del. 7 at the entrance of Delaware Park. According to a report by the Delaware State Police, an SUV failed to stop at a traffic light and collided with a sedan that was leaving Delaware Park.
Reports said the collision knocked the sedan into a pickup truck, causing the pickup to roll over on its side. The drivers of all three vehicles suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said. Police said the driver of the SUV was cited for inattentive driving. Reportedly, the crash impacted both the southbound and northbound lanes of the highway for several hours.
Distracted driving has become a big problem on roadways across the country. According to recent statistics, distracted driving accounted for nearly 20% of crashes causing injury. Those in Delaware who have suffered injury or loss due to negligence in car accidents can take action by consulting an experienced attorney.
