Birth injuries can also affect mothers

On Behalf of | Apr 30, 2019 | Birth Injuries

Like any medical procedure, the birth of a child is a process that must be handled with extreme care and focus. Delaware residents are privileged to have access to wonderful facilities and highly skilled physicians that make childbirth almost routine. During childbirth however, any deviation from the acceptable standard of care can result in devastating injuries to both mothers and infants. Unfortunately, thousands of families across the country are affected by birth injuries every year.

A mother in another state died during childbirth and the family filed a lawsuit accusing her doctors of negligence. According to the lawsuit, the mother needed a cesarean section procedure to give birth. The lawsuit alleged that the woman was scheduled for the procedure at 10 a.m., but the procedure was not performed until after midnight.

Allegedly, there were complications during the procedure and the woman lost a large amount of blood. Apparently, the mother died as a result of the blood loss. During the trial, the woman’s doctors admitted to being negligent, according to reports. The family was awarded a total of $24.5 million in the lawsuit.

The birth of a child is a wonderful event that brings joy and happiness to families. It is a shame when negligence turns this joyful occasion into a tragedy. Families in Delaware who have been affected by birth injuries may want to think about consulting an experienced legal representative. A successfully litigated claim could bring about justice and provide families much-needed and deserved compensation to help them during this difficult time.
