Losing focus for a split second could result in car accidents

Driving is one of the most dangerous activities that people partake in each day. Staying attentive and alert behind the wheel is common knowledge, yet so many Delaware drivers these days will let minor distractions take their attention off of the road. A violent crash recently injured several people and closed a major highway for hours near Smyrna. The accident occurred on Del. 1 near Duck Creek Road during the late afternoon hours. According to reports, a southbound sedan lost control and went into the grassy median in the center of the highway. Reportedly, the car spun into the northbound lanes and into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

Reports said the truck violently collided with the car on the passenger side, pushing it a short distance along the roadway. Due to the extensive damage, the four occupants of the car apparently became trapped in the vehicle. After being extracted, they were all transported to hospitals for treatment, two of which suffered critical injuries. The driver of the truck was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, reports said. The highway was closed for nearly four hours following the crash, police said.
