Car accidents: I-95 crash ends in loss of life

On Behalf of | Dec 23, 2018 | Car Accidents

Although Delaware is small, the state boasts a convenient and easily accessible network of major highways. The vast majority of the time these highways see very high volumes of traffic. Interstate 95 in northern Delaware is one of the most heavily utilized roadways in the eastern United States. Traveling at high speeds on overcrowded roadways is a recipe for car accidents.

A recent crash on Interstate 95 near New Castle resulted in multiple injuries and a fatality. According to reports, the accident happened just before 11 a.m. in a construction zone along the southbound lanes. Police said a car traveling southbound drifted off the roadway and hit a truck that was parked in the construction zone. Reportedly, the car continued on, hitting an occupied vehicle that was parked in front of the truck and then a pedestrian.

The car eventually came to rest after colliding with a trailer. Authorities said a passenger in the car was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the car and the pedestrian were both injured and treated at a hospital, authorities said. The southbound lanes were closed for about 2 1/2 hours following the accident.

The odds for an accident always increase as more and more vehicles share the road. Although car accidents are events that no person wants to experience, the experience can become absolutely devastating when lives are lost. When Delaware residents suffer injury or the loss of a loved one as a result of negligence in an accident, legal action can be taken. Greatly needed financial relief can come from a successful claim.
