New technology may help prevent surgical errors

On Behalf of | Jun 4, 2018 | Surgical Errors

Increased concern over human error in medical procedures has some looking to technology for better options. This has given rise to robotic surgical systems across the United States, designed in part to reduce surgical errors by providing a predictable, precise and calculated method for surgical procedures. In Delaware and throughout the country, these robotic solutions are currently being used primarily in minimally invasive surgeries.

Robotic surgical systems are run by computers. These systems are typically comprised of a monitoring system and software, surgical arms and a surgeon’s console. The abilities of these tools can range from supporting human surgeons by inserting small cameras into key areas to actually complete minor surgical tasks like creating incisions. Demand for the technology is currently particularly high in the fields of laparoscopic and neurological surgeries.

The market for robotic surgical systems is a global one, spanning North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and beyond. North America in particular is expected to invest increasingly in these solutions due to the region’s history of early technology adoption and its well-established health care market. Asia Pacific is another area likely to show steady progress in adopting this technology.

A recent report investigated some of the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities offered by this emerging technology. While some people may benefit from these new technologies, others may become victims of surgical errors due to human error or technological malfunctions. People in Delaware who have suffered as a result of a botched surgery should contact an attorney to understand their legal options.
