3 apps to stop you from texting while driving

Smartphones have been around long enough for most people to be aware of the fact they should never text while behind the wheel. In one survey conducted by AT&T, nearly 75 percent of respondents said they texted while driving. This can involve a person reading a text while stopped at a red light or sending a text while the car is actually in motion.

Distracted driving is a common source of many Delaware car accidents. If you cannot help yourself while driving, then you should download one of the following apps that disable your phone in various ways so you will not feel tempted to check your messages while operating a motor vehicle.

1. TextNoMore

At the end of the day, your only real incentive you should need to not text and drive is to stay safe. However, if you need something more to incentivize you, then you should download TextNoMore. It prevents you from looking at text messages, but the app also partners with various retailers. For being a safe driver, you will receive coupons for some of your favorite stores.

2. Canary

While people of all demographics text and drive, it is a particular issue with teenagers. Parents can download the Canary app onto their teens’ phones. It provides parents with a detailed assessment of their child’s phone usage, so parents know whether their kids have texted while behind the wheel. Teens are far less likely to text and drive when they know mom and dad have an eye on them.

3. Drive Mode

Drive Mode disables a lot of the potential distractions you may encounter with having a phone on you while driving. It prevents you from typing in your PIN or swiping to unlock the screen so you cannot look at any other apps while on the road. Drive Mode also directly sends any phone calls to your voicemail.
