Chain reaction car accidents: Several injured, including baby

On Behalf of | Sep 21, 2017 | Car Accidents

Driving is not a right so much as it is a privilege. As such, it falls to every driver to ensure that he or she pays diligent attention to the task of operating these large machines in order to forestall the possibility of causing a serious crash. Unfortunately, as several Delaware families recently discovered, these tragic car accidents occur without warning and cause unspeakable harm.

According to officials, a recent multi-vehicle accident left several people with serious injuries. The crash was triggered when a 38-year-old woman, who was driving a large commercial truck, purportedly failed to obey a red traffic signal. She then smashed into the rear of a sedan traveling ahead of her. That impact sent the second car into an SUV carrying two passengers, a 68-year-old man and his 66-year-old companion.

That vehicle then collided with a pickup truck. The passengers in the second car were a 20-year-old man and a 7-month-old infant. The driver was transported for treatment by ambulance as were the drivers of the first and third vehicles. The female passenger in the SUV was also injured and taken for care. The infant was trapped in the wreckage of the car and had to be freed before taken by air to a local hospital.

The driver of the fourth vehicle was not injured. Delaware police have not completed their investigation, and it is not clear whether the driver of the commercial vehicle will face criminal charges. The victims may endure a long and painful recovery from this tragic wreck. Families in these circumstances are often burdened with significant monetary damages in addition to the physical injuries their loved ones suffer. Civil lawsuits against the party or parties deemed responsible for these car accidents may allow victims to recover their financial losses so they can focus on their physical recovery.
