I-95 to undergo improvements aimed at reducing car accidents

It is obvious that populations are on the rise across Delaware, and overcrowded roadways are a direct consequence of the population boom. Many roadways in Delaware were constructed decades ago and were not designed for the traffic volumes present these days. Particularly, Interstate 95 in Wilmington sees high volumes of traffic every single day. Thankfully, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is overseeing reconstruction efforts along I-95 aimed at reducing car accidents.

The first step in the Interstate 95 reconstruction in Wilmington is set to begin soon. It involves a redesign and rebuild of the 2nd Street access ramp on I-95 South. Currently, the on-ramp in that location is a dual ramp from 2nd Street and Jackson Street. However, officials said the ramp will be consolidated into a single ramp and the Jackson Street section will be removed.

Reportedly, the acceleration lane to southbound I-95 will also be improved. According to a spokesperson from the DelDOT, this particular location has been the site of about 80 crashes over the last five years. The reconstruction of the ramp should greatly improve the flow of merging traffic and reduce the number of accidents.

Thankfully, much-needed improvements are taking place. Outdated roadways in Delaware can be blamed for hundreds of crashes every year.  However, many car accidents are the result of negligence. Those in Delaware who suffer injury or loss due to the negligence of another party could benefit by seeking the services of a seasoned attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in financial relief for victims and families.
