Car accidents: Motorcyclist killed in tragic crash

As the weather turns warmer in Delaware, many people prefer motorcycles as their main source of transportation. Motorcycles are economical and a fun way to explore the scenic roadways throughout the state. However, motorcyclists these days face unique dangers that are not present for those in passenger vehicles. Motorcycles have a smaller profile, so they can be difficult for other drivers to see. This is a common cause of many car accidents involving motorcycles.

Recently, a crash in Bear claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The accident happened on Route 40 at the intersection with Buckley Boulevard. According reports, a motorcyclist was traveling east on Route 40 approaching the intersection and had a green light. Reports said the driver of a westbound SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Buckley Boulevard and pulled into the path of the motorcyclist.

The motorcycle collided with the right-front of the SUV and ejected the motorcyclist. Authorities said the motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, the motorcyclist died a short time later at the hospital. The driver and passenger in the SUV were not injured, reports said.

Visual recognition is usually a main cause of crashes like this. Unfortunately, car accidents involving motorcycles are more likely to end in serious injury or death since motorcyclists are exposed and minimally protected. Delaware families who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to negligence in an accident could benefit by seeking the services of a legal representative. A seasoned attorney can provide guidance and help families pursue recovery of documented monetary damages in accordance with applicable laws.
