Woman sues surgeon after he allegedly admits to surgical errors

It is understood that there are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Patients undergo surgeries to remedy problems or medical conditions, not to make the problems worse. However, surgeons are human, and humans will undoubtedly make mistakes. Unfortunately, surgical errors kill and injure thousands of people every year in Delaware and across the United States.

A woman in another state filed a lawsuit after her surgeon allegedly admitted to making errors during a surgical procedure. According to the lawsuit, the woman underwent a vaginal trachelectomy, which is a procedure to remove most of the cervix and upper part of the vagina. A few days after the procedure, the woman visited the emergency department with complaints about pressure on her pelvic region and passing stool through her vagina, the lawsuit said.

Allegedly, tests at the emergency room showed that the woman had a fistula, which is an abnormal passage erroneously made via surgery. After contacting her surgeon, the woman claims the surgeon admitted to the mistake and said she would need to undergo two more surgeries to correct the error. The plaintiff seeks a trial by jury, monetary damages and all just relief.

It is true that surgeries are safer these days than in decades past, thanks to advanced medical technology and safety regulations. However, surgical errors can still happen, regardless of advanced technology. Those in Delaware who suffer injury or loss due to negligence during a procedure may want to consult a legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in a substantial monetary award to help victims and families get through this troubling experience.
