Delaware’s Injury And Medical Malpractice Leaders

Patients suffer the consequences of surgical errors

The state of Delaware is home to some of the most skilled and knowledgeable surgeons in the country. These skilled physicians perform their duties with care and save lives on a daily basis. Successful surgery is undoubtedly a process, and any missed step in this process can have disastrous implications for patients. Surgical errors kill and injure thousands of people every year in the United States.

In another state, a lawsuit was filed by a man who claimed that negligence during a procedure left him unconscious. According to the lawsuit, the man was scheduled to undergo a knee replacement surgery. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was given a 100 mcg dose of fentanyl prior to the surgery, even though he was not in pain or showing signs of anxiety.

After being given fentanyl, the lawsuit said the man lost consciousness, stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligently administering a significant dose of fentanyl to the plaintiff when there was no reason to administer the medication, given the situation. The plaintiff seeks compensation for medical expenses as well as for his alleged pain and suffering.

Although surgeries these days are technically safer, there will always be a chance for mistakes any time humans are involved. Tragically, patients will suffer the consequences when mistakes happen during a surgical procedure. Those in Delaware who have been affected by surgical errors may want to consider seeking the services of a legal representative. A lawsuit, if successful, could provide much-needed compensation for victims and families.
