Head-on car accident leaves police with questions

There are times when a car crash has a very clear cause and someone who is very clearly at fault. Other times, police have to piece together exactly what happened, based on evidence and eyewitness testimony, if either is available. This is what Delaware police are facing with a recent car accident where two vehicles struck each other head-on.

According to authorities, the collision occurred on a recent early morning at an intersection of local roads. Officers say that two passenger vehicles were involved and both were operated by young women -- one age 22 and the other age 17. The 22-year-old was driving west and the other was headed east when they apparently struck each other near the intersection.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police report that although their injuries are significant, they are expected to survive. The authorities do not believe that impaired driving or excessive speed contributed to the crash, though they have not yet announced any theory. There is no word on whether either driver will face criminal charges in connection with this incident.

Even if police decide not to file any charges against either of the drivers, the driver, or any other parties, deemed responsible for the accident could face a civil claim from the other driver. A successfully-litigated claim could result in monetary damages that may help the victim cover any outstanding medical expenses or other costs incurred from the car accident. An attorney here in Delaware with experience litigating personal injury claims can answer any questions of someone in a similar situation.
