Car accidents: Hit-and-run crashes can be traumatic

Unfortunately, not all drivers in Delaware are careful or responsible behind the wheel. It's safe to say that no person wants to be involved in a crash, yet thousands of people every year are injured or killed in car accidents caused by negligent drivers. Being involved in an accident is scary enough, but when the at-fault driver flees the scene, the experience can definitely be traumatic. Police are seeking information about a recent hit-and-run crash near Greenville.

The accident happened at night on Lancaster Pike. According to reports, a car was traveling west when it was forced off the road by an SUV. Reports said the car impacted a guardrail and a concrete barrier before going off a bridge and down a 40-foot embankment.

Reportedly, the car came to rest on its roof and burst into flames. Luckily, the four occupants of the car -- one of whom was an infant -- were able to get out before the car caught fire. The driver and a passenger were treated for injuries, and the infant was transported to a hospital for evaluation, authorities said. Police say they are still searching for the driver of the SUV who caused the crash.

Once found, the driver could be facing some very serious criminal charges. Delaware residents who suffer injuries in car accidents due to no fault of their own can pursue full accountability from the at-fault party. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to victims and families as well as a sense of justice.
