Delaware’s Injury And Medical Malpractice Leaders

Surgical errors can happen even in minor procedures

When patients go for surgical procedures, they understandably expect to receive the best care possible. Luckily, thousands of Delaware residents are able to continue living happy and healthy lives thanks to successful surgeries. However, surgical errors happen more than most people realize. Any mistake made during surgery can lead to major complications and even death.

A woman in another state says she went in for minor surgery, and negligence during the procedure left her suffering debilitating injuries. The woman has since filed a medical malpractice lawsuit. According to claims, she went in for a gallbladder removal procedure. This surgery is usually done laparoscopically and is considered fairly routine. However, the woman claims that negligence by her surgeon caused a bile leak during the procedure.

Allegedly, the surgery was completed without repairing the leak, even though the surgeon was aware of it. The lawsuit said the woman had to undergo another surgery to repair the leak and, afterward, her pancreas became filled with fluid due to a perforation. She claims she suffered swelling, pain and vomiting before having yet another surgery. She also required a feeding tube and drains, allegedly. The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages plus all just relief.

Although medical care and safety standards have improved over the years, no surgery is completely safe. Victims and families in Delaware who have suffered as a result of surgical errors may want to consider discussions with a knowledgeable attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in much-needed compensation to help families with any monetary losses that may have occurred due to this traumatic experience.
