Car accidents involving pedestrians are increasing

Pedestrian safety has become a major concern in Delaware as roadways are becoming increasingly crowded. Pedestrians are basically everywhere these days and nearly every person is a pedestrian at some point during the day. For those who live in Delaware cities, walking is often the main source of transportation. These could be a few reasons why car accidents involving pedestrians are on the rise.

A recent accident in Delmar claimed the life of a pedestrian. The accident happened on Sussex Highway, also known as U.S. 13. According to reports, a pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway when he was suddenly struck by a northbound Honda sedan.

Reportedly, the pedestrian was struck by the left front bumper of the car and thrown up onto the hood, eventually landing in the grass median of the highway. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said. The driver of the car was not injured, according to police. The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for about three and a half hours while police conducted an investigation.

Populations are increasing across Delaware, so naturally there are more motorists and pedestrians than ever before. With vehicles and pedestrians in such close proximity, car accidents involving pedestrians will happen. Those in Delaware who have suffered injury or the loss of a loved one due to negligence in an accident may be able to take legal action. By filing a lawsuit, victims and families could be awarded much-needed compensation to help recover any monetary losses that may have occurred due to this tragic experience.
