Patient's pain and suffering due to spinal surgical errors

It is only human to make mistakes. Unfortunately, when doctors makes surgical errors, patients often suffer the consequences. It can happen in Delaware as easily as it can in any other state: a doctor makes a human mistake, and the human on the other end of the scalpel falls victim to medical malpractice.

In Dec. 2014, a man in another state was to have an artificial disc placed in his neck by a spine surgeon at a large hospital. To the patient's dismay, the surgery did not go as planned. The patient is now suing the hospital, the medical group, and the surgeon who were involved in the botched surgery.

According to the patient's allegations in the suit, the surgeon cut into the patient's spinal cord; however, the doctor claims to have cut the dura accidentally. To deal with his mistake, the doctor performed a disc fusion. The lawsuit alleges that if the doctor had recognized that he had cut the patient's spinal cord, he could have received assistance from other doctors to rescue the patient from further harm. Instead, the patient is crippled and he must take medication to suppress his pain.

Patients always hope for the highest standard of care when entering a hospital, let alone going under the knife for spine surgery. Surgical errors are a serious form of medical malpractice that often result in ongoing health issues for the victim. Delaware citizens who feel they are victims of a doctor's error are entitled to speak with an experienced medical malpractice lawyer about pursuing a lawsuit. Monetary compensation awarded in a successful claim may be used for medical costs, loss of wages, pain and suffering associated with the surgical error and other documented financial losses.
